About this Chic Retreat

Exuding old-fashioned Tuscan charm overlooking miles of Cortonese countryside, Il Falconiere is an idyllic small boutique hotel on the Barrachi family estate, perfect for explorations of this inspirational region. Dating back to the 17th-century, there are 20 rooms dispersed between the estate's old stone villa, around the chapel and in the old farmhouse, all enjoying wonderful views across the landscape. The Barrachi estate produces wines in keeping with the family's tradition of grape growing and wine making and a pleasant day can be spent tasting the delicious wines. For pampering, try the Thesan Etruscan Spa for a body treatment using natural products from Cortona or take a book down to the outdoor pool and after a day of relaxing, head to dinner in the Michelin-star restaurant or out on the terrace and enjoy a delightful menu of traditional cuisine. Art lovers are in for a treat, with excursions organised by your knowledgable hosts, Silvia and Riccardo Barrachi.

Accommodation

All rooms are decorated with rustic Tuscan fabrics and furnishings, wrought iron or four poster beds can be found within the 20 rooms, along with original antique furniture, frescoed walls and woven fabrics. The Classic Rooms can be found in the villa, while the Luxury Rooms and Suites are dispersed around the estate, near the chapel and in the old farmhouse. For some extra romance, the Luxury Rooms, Junior Suite and Suites have Jacuzzis in the en-suite bathrooms, while the Suites have second en-suite bathrooms with showers. The Junior Suites and Suites lead off from a solarium where you can enjoy the Tuscan climate looking over the gardens. In addition there is a Spa Suite and Spa Room within the spa itself overlooking the outdoor pool. The Spa Suite includes a private spa tub for the ultimate in indulgence.

Activities

Love Tuscan cuisine? Try out the estates cookery school with lessons on traditional Tuscan and Cortonese cookery. Included in some courses are visits to wineries, wine tastings and tours of the nearby Tuscan and Umbrian towns. Or if you'd rather have someone else do the cooking while you sample the wines of the area, take the 6 day Grand Wine Tour. There are plenty of medieval towns and villages to visit during the day, including Cortona, Arezzo, Siena and Montepulciano. Art lovers, have your hosts arrange you a fabulous cultural tour.

For pampering, head to the Thesan Etruscan Spa which offers a range of treatments using natural products from the area. Relax by the outdoor pool overlooking the cypress trees and olive groves of the valley, or take a dip in the atmospheric indoor pool by candelight.

Dining

The Michelin-starred Il Falconiere restaurant serves up delicious Tuscan and Cortonese cuisine in the pretty restaurant, the glass conservatory, or out on the terrace. Wonderfully presented and using the freshest of ingredients, the delicious offerings are sure to have you returning night after night, although there are plenty of places to dine out in the area if you wish. For a truly romantic meal, take dinner in the Little Clock Room, with just one table. Of course, no meal is complete without selecting a wine from the extensive cellar. The breakfast buffet is a delicious array of sweet and salty tarts, cold cuts, cheese, lamp cooked eggs and other delicacies.

Rates at Il Falconiere are per room per night including breakfast. Third beds can be added to some of the rooms at a rate of EUR 60 per night for those over 12 years old (in the Deluxe Room, Junior Suite and Suite). Children of all ages accepted.
